Winchester
Winchester is a city in the county of Hampshire, on the edge of England's South Downs National Park. Its known for medieval Winchester Cathedral, with its 17th-century Morley Library, the Winchester Bible and a Norman crypt. Nearby are the ruins of Wolvesey Castle and the Winchester City Mill, a working 18th-century corn mill. The Great Hall of Winchester Castle houses the medieval round table linked to King Arthur.
Portsmouth & Southsea
Portsmouth is a port city and naval base on Englands south coast, mostly spread across Portsea Island. Its known for its maritime heritage and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. The dockyard is home to the interactive National Museum of the Royal Navy, the wooden warship HMS Victory, where Nelson died in the Battle of Trafalgar, and HMS Warrior 1860. The Tudor ship Mary Rose is also conserved in a dockyard museum
Nestled on the southern side of Portsmouth with views across to the Isle of Wight the coastal resort of Southsea has traditional British waterfront charm, with a fresh air of trendiness brought by the increasing number of independent shops and eateries that now reside in this special slice of seaside England.
There are few destinations that could rival such a cool coastal culture combined with a history dating back to the first ships to leave British shores. Southsea looks out upon the Solent where sea forts are passed by ferries, cruise liners, Royal Navy ships, and even Ben Ainslies INEOS Team UK racing sailing yachts.
Lyndhurst & New Forest
Known as the capital of the New Forest since William the Conqueror established it as a royal hunting ground in 1079. Lyndhurst has been visited by kings and queens staying at the Royal Manor throughout the centuries. Today, Lyndhurst remains the administrative heart of the New Forest.
Situated at the top of the High Street, sits the impressive gothic parish church of St Michael and All Angels. The church was built in the mid-nineteenth century, although evidence suggests churches were previously found on this site. Within the church you can find some beautiful pre-Raphaelite windows designed by William Morris and a fresco by Lord Frederick Leighton which is said to be modelled on local people.
Fareham & Gosport
It was historically an important manufacturer of bricks, used to build the Royal Albert Hall, and grower of strawberries and other seasonal fruits. Current employers include Fareham Shopping Centre, small-scale manufacturers, HMS Collingwood and the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory.
Discover Gosport
Located on Englands south coast just across the harbour from Portsmouth, Gosport and Lee-on-the-Solent offer an irresistible mix of fascinating places to visit and things to do for all ages. 24 miles of waterfront, safe panoramic beaches, impressive naval heritage, plenty of watersports plus scenic countryside walks and historic trails, there is much to keep the family entertained.
