Eastbourne is one of Britain's more elegant resorts, enjoying a glorious sunny location on the south coast in the shelter of Beachy Head. It has five miles of promenade and the famous Carpet Gardens line the seafront. Activities include bowls, museums, cinemas and dancing at the Winter Gardens. Beachy Head has panoramic views, from Brighton in the west to Dungeness in Kent in the east. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is close to the historical sites of Hastings and Battle and a short drive from lively Brighton. There's plenty to do with excellent shops, museums, shows, concerts, cinema and dancing as well as outstanding sports facilities.

Eastbourne has clean, inviting beaches, predominantly of shingle leading to sand at low tide, which offer excellent bathing. Its award-winning gardens range from the striking Carpet Gardens along the seafront, to the rockery of Helen Gardens and the shingle based Sovereign Park with its 130 different species of wild flowers.

Shoppers find high street names amongst the town's flower-lined pedestrianised streets and its main indoor centre, the Arndale Centre. Little Chelsea Quarter sells antiques, hand-made furniture, jewellery and ceramics.

One Excusion - Seven Sisters & Brighton

BRIGHTON

An inclusive, free-thinking city in the heart of Sussex. With a blend of modern culture and exotic architecture, sea and countryside, make Brighton your base and discover new places and experiences both inside the city and out.

What’s Brighton like in a nutshell?

Ever since royal party animal George IV fell in love with Brighton back in the 18th Century, the city has been a magnet for visitors in search of fun, frolics and fresh sea air. With its majestic Regency squares and crescents, iconic Royal Pavilion and famous piers, today Brighton is as well-known for being a welcoming and diverse city with a passion for culture, creativity and sustainability as it is for its historic landmarks.

SEVEN SISTERS

The Seven Sisters are a series of chalk sea cliffs on the English Channel coast, and are a stretch of the sea-eroded section of the South Downs range of hills, in the county of East Sussex, in south-east England.

Second Excursion - Hastings & Battle

HASTINGS

Hastings is a town on England’s southeast coast. It's known for the 1066 Battle of Hastings, fought on a nearby field where Battle Abbey now stands. The Norman ruins of Hastings Castle, once home to William the Conqueror, overlook the English Channel. East along the shingle seafront of Stade beach, Hastings Fishermen’s Museum and Shipwreck Museum document maritime history. The Jerwood Gallery shows contemporary art.

BATTLE

Unfolding England's story

Named after the Battle of Hastings, the most famous conflict on English soil, this compact market town grew up alongside the battleground, tranquil medieval abbey and surrounding ancient woodlands – largely unchanged to this day.

Battle's bustling historic high street is a joy to wander, featuring many of the kinds of shops you don't often see elsewhere. Independent clothes shops, craft shops, wool shops and book shops, and tiny cafés and tea rooms spilling out onto the pavements.
