Shanklin is beautifully situated on the cliffs bordering the South East coast of the Isle of Wight and is sheltered to the west by high-lying downs. The town is split with the old village lying on the cliff top and the new village nestled close to the sea. The two are connected by a cliff lift.

Yarmouth is a small and charming town with a lovely harbour, a wooden pier, a castle and a country park. It is also a great base for exploring the west Wight area, with attractions such as Tapnell Farm Park, The Needles and Freshwater.

Newport is the county town of the Isle of Wight, with a rich history, architecture and culture. Explore its attractions, events, places to eat and drink, and accommodation options in this vibrant town.

Ryde is the largest town on the Isle of Wight, with a rich history, a lively seafront and a variety of attractions. Whether you want to enjoy the sandy beaches, the shopping centres, the cultural events or the nearby countryside, Ryde has something for everyone.

Needles

Welcome to the world-famous Needles Landmark Attraction, one of the Isle of Wight’s most iconic sights and a unique part of Britain.

Carisbrooke Castle - English Heritage

Sitting high and proud at the heart of the Isle of Wight, Carisbrooke Castle has been an artillery fortress, king's prison and a royal summer residence. Today it's the quintessential romantic castle, with plenty to see and enjoy in the fresh open air. Experience far reaching panoramic views from high castle walls, or wander the moat to discover King Charles I's bowling green. Enjoy the tranquil Princess Beatrice Garden and stunning St Nicholas' Chapel, all before meeting the adorable Carisbrooke donkeys.

The Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary

A forever home and exceptional care for donkeys and equines on the Isle of Wight. Founded in 1987, our charity relies entirely on donations and fundraising to help look after our animals.

Osbourne House - English Heritage

Get an unforgettable glimpse into the private family life of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert at Osborne on the Isle of Wight.

From sumptuous interiors and art collections inside, to a peaceful beach and marvellous gardens outside, a day out at Osborne has something for everyone. Explore Osborne’s vast grounds, follow the interactive tree trail and find the unusual Swiss Cottage, where the royal children played, gardened, cooked and collected unusual objects in their own private museum.

Victoria and Albert bought and built Osborne to fulfil the queen’s desire for a ‘place of one’s own – quiet and retired’. Its dazzling interiors, art collection, gardens and grounds reflect their personal passions, taste and style.

Don't miss the Victoria Hall Restaurant – one of four food and drink outlets you’ll find around the estate. There are also plenty of great picnicking spots throughout the grounds, and a play area to explore.

Isle of Wight Steam Railway

EXPERIENCE A NOSTALGIC 10 MILE STEAM TRAIN JOURNEY

Explore the multi award-winning Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Get ready to be transported back in time with the sights and smells of a bygone era that will charm, engage and captivate. Our beautifully preserved railway creates the perfect backdrop for your special day out.

Monkey Haven

The Isle of Wight’s award-winning primate rescue centre. A place to relax, have fun in the fresh air and meet some amazing animals.

Our sanctuary is for animals in need of care and attention. You’ll learn all about these fascinating creatures, their personalities, and how they came to be at the Haven. Many were rescued from tragic situations, found tied up in airports, or badly neglected by their previous owners.

We rescue and rehabilitate owls that have injuries and wouldn’t survive in the wild. And we also look after reptiles and a mob of meerkats. Come and say hello.

Ventnor Botanic Garden

lies at the heart of a remarkable microclimate on the south coast of the Isle of Wight. Surrounded by the chalk downs of the Ventnor Undercliff, the garden boasts an impressive collection of rare and exotic plants and trees. Our unique microclimate, averaging around 5 degrees warmer than the rest of the UK, has enabled us to grow a wide variety of plants considered too tender for much of mainland Britain, plants that are native to countries all over the world, including Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Japan and many more. The garden is unrivalled for its collections of sub-tropical plants grown unprotected out of doors, including the National Collection of half-hardy and hardy Puya, comprising over 20 species in 77 accessions. In addition to the outdoor space, we have a large Tropical House where we grow some of the biggest specimens of Giant Amazonian Waterlilies in the world. The leaves of these giant varieties can grow over 8 feet across, and the flowers can grow up to 12 inches wide!

Wildheart Animal Sanctuary

is based on Sandown Beach, Winner of BBC Countryfile Magazines 2019 Beach of the Year Award, which is on the east coast of the Island. The sanctuary is well known as a centre for rescued big cats, all have come to their forever homes at different stages of their lives and from a variety of backgrounds. Originally family-owned it recently became a registered charity, Wildheart Animal Sanctuary, which aims to promote the survival of endangered species through first class educational and recreational experiences, exemplary animal management, conservation and research.
