The House of Dun
Built for David Erskine, 13th Laird of Dun, and designed in the Palladian style by renowned architect William
Adam, House of Dun is the perfect example of a Georgian mansion house.
Work began in 1730. Taking 13 years to complete, the attention to detail and style can be seen in the smallest
features. The breathtaking plasterwork by Joseph Enzer dominates the main Saloon of the house. Depicting
both classical scenes and family emblems, it magnified the importance of the Erskine family for guests to
admire.
Throughout the house, the fine family furnishings are enhanced by the masterful embroidery and woolwork of
Lady Augusta Fitzclarence, daughter of William IV and the actress Dorothy Jordan. Enjoy some of their
fascinating family stories brought to life by our costumed guides.
Downstairs, you can experience the sounds and smells of a Georgian kitchen and see how the house was
at the forefront of technology, with its labour-saving clockwork spit. Isabella the cook will welcome you
inside and share some stories from the household staff.

Glamis Castle
Glamis has been the ancestral seat to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne since King Robert II granted
the Thanage of Glamis to Sir John Lyon in 1372.
The Castle as we know it today was built from the 1400s and has been on a grand journey through Scottish
history for over 650 years. Once host to Mary, Queen of Scots, Glamis is said to have inspired one of
Shakespeares most famous plays, Macbeth. Glamis also has a deep connection to todays Royal Family as
it was the childhood home of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and birthplace of HRH
Princess Margaret.

Mount Stuart
A remarkable architectural feat. An enlightening visit.
Mount Stuarts architectural journey is a story in itself. The original house was built in 1719, but was
severely damaged by fire in 1877. Most of the contents survived, along with the wings of the building. These
were incorporated into the house you see today, which was built in the late 19th century. The Georgian
architecture of the wings presents a striking contrast to the otherwise Victorian design, providing a
completely unique architectural blend. Taking a moment to absorb the sheer beauty of the building is an
unforgettable part of the Mount Stuart experience. And thats before youve stepped through the door.
Inside, design inspired by astrology, art and mythology dazzles. See a map of the stars on the ceiling of the
Marble Hall. This house is filled with innovations from an early telephone system to our Victorian
passenger lift.

Isle of Brute
Bute is perhaps the most accessible of Argylls islands. Thanks to this, and a balmy climate, it has been a
popular holiday spot for well over a century. Rothesay, Butes chief town, is a seaside resort brimming with
character, cafés and good old-fashioned shops. Follow the coastal road south, and youll find Mount Stuart,
a spectacular palace set amid acres of woodland.
